Garmin Striker 7SV is a fish finder with a transducer that easily alerts any presence of a fish or a school of fishes. Not only can you pinpoint where exactly you need to station your gear for better results, but you can also come to and from the hot spots or the docks and ramps, giving your more flexibility even on water.
It is rated 4.6 out of 5 based on its overall performance and accuracy in proportion to its price tag. To be honest, it is pretty expensive. However, if you have some extra and want to elevate your fishing game, this might be the best buy you should go for. Read on to know why!
Why It’s Making Headlines
The Transducer
As briefly mentioned, Garmin Striker 7SV comes with a transducer with a built-in Garmin CHIRP traditional sonar plus CHIRP ClearVü and CHIRP SideVü scanning sonars. Simply put, these chips provide:
- Higher imaging clarity. Unlike its predecessors, Striker 7SV produces clearer images of fish and structure, allowing a point-blank accuracy for when you move your boat or your gears.
- Multiple frequencies. It does not just send a single frequency but sends multiple frequencies in consistent intervals. These then provide crisper fish arches.
- Fish Vertically. Garmin Striker 7SV can also show you the bottom landscape whether on solid groups or muddy places. This is neat because you can have a better overview of what you are aiming for and can support when you adjust your jig.
These features alone top the other fish finders. With better imaging and information available with Striker 7SV, it was definitely a pleasant day of fishing and not just waiting for any fish to take our lure.
Maps and GPS
Garmin Striker 7SV has a high-sensitivity GPS aiding in the accuracy of location whether on the waters or at the dock. Furthermore, you can mark waypoints as hazard markers that are convenient for navigating through the water.
Thanks to this, the built-in Quickdraw Contours mapping software provides almost photographic, wide images that show the terrain on both sides of our boat, making it position ourselves in relation to what lies below us. This model’s resolution is currently 800 x 480.

Aside from the smart upgrades Striker 7SV has, this fish finder also has:
- Speed checker. If in case you visit waters that impose speed limits or your companions don’t want to go way overboard, this speed checker can handle the confusion for you.

- Better mobility. This finder comes in a portable kit so you can carry this for kayaking, canoeing, or ice fishing. It comes with a bag so it was pretty easy to move things around even in varying fishing conditions.
- Rechargeable. The package also comes with a rechargeable battery with a charger that you can carry anywhere so you don’t have to worry about running out of batter in the middle of nowhere.
- Waterproof. Manual says it is IPX7 or “can withstand incidental exposure to water of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.” In other words, It is not completely waterproof. It’s best to keep them mounted in places that water can unlikely reach to keep the device in the best working condition.
Garmin 7CV vs 7SV
Both are actually similar as they are in the same Garmin Striker line of fish finders. The only difference is that Garmin Striker 7SV has a “side-view” and that Garmin Striker 7CV has a better display at an angle and display screen than Garmin Striker 7SV. Everything else is nearly identical and only varies depending on where you use them (e.g. in the open sea or in murky waters).
Should you buy it?
If doesn’t hurt the bill, then Garmin Striker 7SV may prove to be a worthy investment especially if you are an active angler and have a bit of trouble finding the next catch.
